When a plant or a question can’t wait
We can’t diagnose plants by email, and nobody watches the site for urgent questions. These people can help right away.
A sick plant or a mystery bug: your county extension office or local Master Gardener volunteers. Many states also run a plant diagnostic lab that can test a sample.
Lead or other metals in your soil: ask your extension office or a soil testing lab for a test that includes metals, before you plant food crops there.
Pressure canning: many county extension offices test the dial gauges on pressure canners. For tested recipes, see the National Center for Home Food Preservation.
Pesticide exposure: call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. For general pesticide questions, the National Pesticide Information Center answers at 1-800-858-7378.
Corrections and sources
Write here when a figure looks wrong, a planting date doesn’t fit your area, or a source has been updated.
These details help us check it fast:
- The page address
- The figure or sentence in question
- Your state, your zone, or your average last frost date
- The source you’re comparing against
Most corrections go up within a week. Planting calendars are reviewed every winter, before seed-starting season.
Got a gardening question you’d like answered in a guide? Send it here too. Many guides start that way.

What we can’t help with
Naming a plant problem from a photo. Leaf spots, nutrient shortages, and weed killer damage can look alike. A diagnostic lab can tell them apart from a sample.
Pesticide or weed killer rates. The product label sets the rate, and the label is the law. We don’t add to it.
New canning recipes. We point to tested recipes only. We don’t adapt them or write our own.
A planting plan for your exact yard. Our calendars and bed planner give you the method. Your local extension office knows your conditions.
Guest posts and paid links. We don’t publish them.

Who runs the site
VegetableGardening.net is operated by Jummo Vegetable Garden, based in Bangladesh. Four people research, write, check, and edit the guides. You can meet them on the About page.
The guides are written for home gardeners in the United States, so most of the research and rules they cite are American.
